AP Moller Maersk to sack 200 Danish shipping staff

So much for a job for life with a family oriented firm. This is actually a good move: Denmark does have a very great martime tradition and its seafarers are certainly superb, but Denmark is a very high cost country and seafaring is global by nature, with Filipino and Ukrainian sailors among many who can do a fine job for a fraction of the pay. But this perhaps portends to an even greater shift in philosophy: over the next few years, look for more land based jobs in high cost locations (not just in Denmark's HQ) to move to low ercost countries.
